NCL No jackets required

NCL moves to lifejacket-free muster drills

It's taken a while, but finally another cruise line has followed Royal Caribbean International's excellent example on Oasis of the Seas and done away with the need for passengers to fetch their lifejacket from their cabin for the muster drill. Norwegian Cruise Line is introducing a new procedure whereby on hearing the emergency alarm, passengers go straight to the muster station, where they'll hear all the usual safety info and also presumably learn how to put on a life jacket.

Twiggy does her bit!

TWIGGY DOES HER BIT FOR SEABOURN.

Seabourn Sojourn’s christening was short, sweet, and to the point. Godmother Twiggy commenced the festivities with a blessing and the smash of the ceremonial champagne bottle. The 32,000-ton Sojourn is the sister ship to the Seabourn Odyssey, the third sister ship (Seabourn Quest) debuts next year.

Carrying just 450 passengers, Sojourn is opulent and intimate with standout features that includes the largest spa on a luxury vessel, the two-deck Spa at Seabourn provides the ultimate pampering experience at sea. Exceptional new amenities in the 11,400-square-foot spa include a Kneipp Walk, an herbal bath facility and aroma steam bath with salt inhalation. For pure indulgence and relaxation, guests can reserve the canopied Spa Villa, with a whirlpool big enough for two, a private balcony for sunbathing, a double daybed and a full living room. Im taking booking now if you wish to get your place secured for the maiden season – let me know and I can get the itineries out to you with the best prices available.

New onboard - A BABY GIRL???

Ive just seen an article which I thought was quite interesting – and I can now see why cruise lines are really strict about NOT Allowing woman who are passed the 24th week of their pregnancy upon return to cruise… For this reason!!

New MSC MAGNIFICA

There are a number of new ships to delight in this year as you can see from my previous blogs, One of which being the brand new ship by the Italian line MSC. Within hours of its launch the words, Stylish, Classic and breathtaking were uttered in awe of this new ship. The 11th ship to join the fleet, it marks something of a return to elegant chic and tradition that has helped this Italian cruise line stand out from its competitors. You won’t find the Swarovski staircases and light sculptures that adorn Fantasia & Splendida or the fantastic Zebra Bar onboard MSC Poesia. Far from being bland in comparison Magnifica plays host to a Piano in the Atrium that appears to float on water itself and fun bits like mini ten pin bowling alley, lighter smaller balls make it more family friendly, a 4D Cinema, Tiger bar, glitzy casino and a nightclub for those night owls amongst us.

Turtle power 2

As any of my avid blog readers will know Im quite partial to the turtle – Im loving the cute little creatures. Sea turtles may be an endangered species; however there are plenty of loggerheads to see over in Cape Verde. Home to the worlds third largest population of loggerheads, and the only majorly significant nesting site on the eastern Atlantic, the island nation of Cape Verde sees more than 3000 sea turtles visit its shores every summer from May to September. They usually wait until midnight (and a full moon) to make their ways to the sandy shores, but even by day they can be seen underwater at the beaches around Cape Verdes capital Praia. Conveniently this is a docking port for the Famous Cruise lines – there are various itineraries that dock here or tender nearby –

Azores and Cape Verde Islands
The nine islands of the Azores, discovered by the Portuguese and long a haven for voyages between the Old and New Worlds, feature craters, lakes, sheer cliffs and lush valleys. The Cape Verde Islands are also a mountainous volcanic archipelago with attractive towns and old Portuguese colonial buildings. Mainly staging posts on transatlantic cruises, there are occasional round trip cruises from Western Europe.

For info on itinerary and availability for 2010 or 2011 – give me a quick call and ill sort it all out for you.

Goodbye Mercury - Hello Mein Schiff2!!

Celebrity Cruises this week confirmed that Celebrity Mercury will leave the Celebrity fleet at the end of February 2011. It will become the second ship in the TUI Cruises fleet, a line that is jointly owned by Celebrity parent Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd and German travel conglomerate TUI.

Celebrity Mercury's last sailing for the Celebrity brand will be on February 14, 2011. So if this is one of your preferred vessels give me a call and I can look t availability for you. Sailings beginning February 28, 2011, will now be cancelled. The line only had sailings through April 11 2011, open for sale, which has caused rumours for several months. Celebrity normally has programs for each ship selling about a year (or more) in advance. Incentives will be offered for passengers on the affected sailings to move to other itineraries. Celebrity Mercury had been scheduled to operate at the end of February 2011. The ship will become TUI's Mein Schiff 2 and enter service for TUI in May 2011. Like TUI's other ship, it is expected to be marketed only in German-speaking markets. So it really will be GOODBYE MERCURY…

Britains Got Talent - Cruisers get the real talent

Over the weekend, my sister and I were watching the infamous B.G.T (Britain’s got Talent) and we were both laughing hysterically at ‘KEVIN CRUISE’ the chief host on board the fictional cruise ship ‘The fishy Rose’ which is apparently a 5000 passenger and 2000 floating entertainment complex that Kevin refers to lovingly as a rust bucket according to his website – YES I checked YES I wanted to be sure that he was a fictional character and not of one of my precious ships. Simon Cowell is not a fan of Kevin Cruise, and even said – see this is why I would go on one of those things on TV.                                                                      I feel compelled to write to him, but as I’m sure it won’t get read – I thought I would clarify…. Kevin cruise has no chance of appearing on the Royal Variety Show unlike some of the acts that DO appear on The Royal Variety they have great futures ahead of them, for instance take a look at The Blue Man group – their weird and wonderful shows featuring lights and paints are breathtaking and they appear on the NCL Ship EPIC!! They are sure to be thankful to the Royal Variety Show as it was this that gave them a platform to the mainstream after their performance with Catherine Jenkins on the show where she wore and electric dress with flashing lights and where they painted Joe Pasquale live on stage in blue paint – hung him upside down and pressed him onto paper to make a rather abstract painting!

Circus acts have made fabulous names for them selves on this show also and feature fantastically onboard many ships with the excellent flare and spectacular shows that people really do expect on cruise ships. I an assure you that you are highly unlikely to come across a real ‘Kevin Cruise’ onboard and will be inspired by the entertainment that really is onboard – so get in touch and I can tell you about the entertainment on any ship you are interested in cruising on. 08004086144
