Voyages to America!

At cruise.co.uk we are constantly keeping our knowledge of ships and companies fresh as we have little updates from the companies ‘reps’ who come in and give us the best of their knowledge. Today was the turn of Tim FROM Voyages of Discovery who are part of the All Discovery group.

These are fabulous destination inspired cruise ships, much smaller than the regular liners we deal with day in day out, so it was quite nice to hear about the places they go. This year from November until April 2011 the Voyages of Discovery ship is heading out to Latin America and the Caribbean where the tours are not designed for those sun worshippers planning on spending days on the beaches, the tour are highly educational, where passengers get the best from the destinations by learner about history and cultures that carve a way of life in these areas. These include The Amazon, The Orinoco, the Falland Islands and also Gapgos Island which are very inytimet tours and a true treat to be had. Voyages of Discovery have been awarded Best Cruise value for speciality cruises and with options of activities during the day and the combination of 6 bars, 4 lounges, 3 restaurants and internet facilities, pool and Gym, card rooms and theatres for lectures and shows you can do as little or as much as you like

This may all be part and parcel as to why their newest acquisition Hebridian Princess is in the news this week! The royal family are on board for an exclusive two week break As one would expect they are not planning on sharing the ship! The Royal Family arrived en masse at Stornoway on Friday to begin a 10-day luxury cruise aboard the Hebridean Princess.

The charter, estimated to have cost £300k, was organised by the Queen to celebrate Princess Anne's forthcoming 60th birthday and Prince Andrew's 50th birthday earlier this year. No doubt there'll be a lot of reminiscing aboard. The monarch is said to have adored her yearly cruises around Scotland aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia, and was devasted when the ship was decommissioned in 1997.

The Queen was joined by a large group of Royal family members including the Duke of York, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, the Princess Royal and husband, Vice-Admiral Tim Laurence, her son Viscount Linley, and Princess Margaret’s son and his family, to name but a few. The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward and the Countess of Wessex, with their children are due to board the ship at a later date.

Although the ship's itinerary is strictly confidential, it is well known that The Queen has a favourite picnic beach on the remote island of Colonsay and another at Scarista on Harris in the Outer Hebrides. The cruise is due to end with a visit to the late Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother’s home at the Castle of Mey on the northern coast of Caithness at around the time of the 110th anniversary of her birth.

Luxury liners leading the way!

If like many of our clients at cruise.co.uk you are considering moving forward in your cruise experience, here is a piece of advice for those planning a cruise holiday: Buy as much as you can possibly afford – It pays dividend in the end!!
In many cases, as cruise, in any cabin standard is a BIG holiday! So why not make the most of your investment and get the most satisfying experience you can! Why settle for an interior cabin if another couple of hundred will get you an ocean view or balcony cabin – If you can make your money stretch a bit further for mini suites or suites you will enjoy the cruise experience a whole lot more with more room to spare! And finally: Why not consider travelling on a small luxury vessel rather than on a mainstream cruise line's massive mega ship? Many people never give the likes of Silversea, Seabourn, Crystal and others in that upscale niche a second thought when they get down to making their cruise plans. That could be a mistake. Sure, these companies charge more. But they tend to give a lot more as well.

Epic singles

Norwegian Epic has a “ship within a ship” section of 128 smaller (100 square feet) “Studio Staterooms” These are all nicely hidden behind a series of solid doors and connected by a common corridor All the rooms have large, round picture windows looking out on the corridor, which leads to the Studio Lounge where all singles can go at any time to get coffee, snacks or cocktails and talk, play games or watch TV. The Sudio Lounge has fast been referred to the "Living Room." The Studio staterooms have sexy blue LED lighting and rooms are very cozy with queen-size beds, a shower, toilet and sink, a nice flat-panel TV and coloured (red, blue and violet) lights that you can set in low tones or allow to cycle for a private light show. These small rooms are incredibly comfortable for one person, and fortunately that is how they are sold; one price for one person in the room, with no “singles supplement” surcharge. These are amongst some the only special single cabins at sea. Specially designed and not a ‘single bed’ in sight!
It is very easy to meet other solos onboard Norwegian Epic, but the Free-style restaurants and shows tend to full up long before the ship sails. So we recommend that you make reservations online at ncl.com 45 days before your cruise sails. If you would like to get a great rate cruise deal in a Norwegian Epic studio Stateroom call me 08004086144 or email nadinel@cruise.co.uk

Atul do nicely for P&O!!

The top Indian-born Chef Atul Kochhar serves hot chips with his fine Indian Cuisine onboard ‘Azura’ Atul will be on board Azura July 23rd, August 8th and 21st September this year.

Atul is said to be very excited about the opening of Sindhu on Azura, he has never done anything like it before, but is looking forward to the prospect of sailing somewhere and cooking at the same time. Serving beef and pork for the first time (Indian restaurants rarely serve beef and pork for cultural reasons) he will be focusing quite heavily on it, for example, a Goan inspired dish, fillet of beef, marinated in piri-piri spices and grilled to perfection, served with piri-piri sauce and to keep the British twist he is so famous for – he will be serving it with chips and a spicy coriander sauce.

Working in a Galley is very different to his London kitchens, although there is the same work ethos, the same discipline and when you’re working with similar food, there are the same familiar smells. Although the tandoor onboard is a little different as they have a electric one rather than the open flamed Tandoor he is used to at home, he will smoke the meat in a smoke chamber to give it all the same full flavours we expect. There will be a cross over from Benares and his other restaurants, there will be his signature style Indian Food with that British twist. He has split the restaurant in two. The NASTA area where you can sample Indian street food in a traditional way with live demonstrations and then there is the main dining area where dinner will be served (only open for evening dining)

Atul has previously cruised to Norway with his wife and felt that was amazing, he is loving cruising as a great way to see the Fjords with plenty to do onboard. On this ship there is plenty of space and time to relax with each other and have a fantastic time. There are limited spaces avaliable now so, give me a call and lets see what we can offer you on this fabulous ship and get you some really great cruise deals. 08004086144

EPIC LAUNCH!

Neither shipyard fires nor controversial semi-transparent cabin bathrooms could stop the Champagne from smashing against Norwegian Epic's hull this week in Manhattan, as NCL officially welcomed its largest and most ambitious ship into the fleet. The ceremony was a multi-act affair, broadcast live from around the ship at several of the 4,100-passenger, 153,000-ton Epic's many entertainment venues. Duelling pianists from "Howl at the Moon" performed a mini-medley of "rock hits on request" in Headliners, the comedy and nightclub; Nickelodeon stars Dora the Explorer, Sponge Bob and Jimmy Neutron danced with younger cruisers in the atrium (two of said youngsters were pied in the face); and a trio of confused mutes from Blue Man Group created an impromptu Epic poster in the Epic Theatre by using drumsticks to send green and red paint splattering around a stencil of "Norwegian Epic." Attendees in each venue watched performances from other locations on giant movie screens.
